book news - and another CALL for SUBMISSIONS

sensual knits cover

The book is off to be designed and out of my hands for now, so things should be getting back to normal around here…for a while. It’s crazy to think there’s already a cover for it and that it’s up on amazon. I hope you all love it, I’m so proud of all the designers I worked with!

I’ve been offered the chance to curate a second book, scheduled to be released at the end of ‘08. If you would like to submit a design, send an email to submissions AT pureknits DOT com by May 7th extended till May 13th with a sketch of your design idea, a swatch of your fabric, a written description of the design and inspirations, and your contact information. I’ve included some information on the book below, but don’t hesitate to email any questions you have. I’m looking to include men’s, women’s, and baby/kids’ patterns.
Pure Knits: Sophisticated Designs in Shades of White
A lush, gorgeous guide to all-white knitted garments—everything from sensuous sweaters for
women to adorable baby knits to rugged masculine garments.

The 25 projects in Pure Knits will utilize rich fibers that are perfect to work in and show off stitch textures. Merinos, cashmeres, and other wools will be used in stitch heavy and stockinette patterns while fibers such as mohair, angora and silk will be in mostly lace or stockinette pieces. Women’s, men’s, and kids’ projects will be knit in plush winter whites. The projects will range from small accessories (like socks, scarves, hats etc), to shawls, to sweaters and coats.
Focus will be on fit, structure, and stitch patterns to create classic yet modern pieces. Lace, cables, and textured stitch patterns will be the focus of these patterns. They will range from design details (such as edgings or center panels) to all-over patterns (lace work or multiple cables). Construction methods such as set-in sleeves, waist-shaping, short rows, seaming, and top-down knitting will be employed.

Yarntini Sock Club FAQ

I’ve been receiving so many emails asking about the sock club that I’m probably starting to sound like a drone (I hope I don’t!). To combat this, I figured I should create one post that can serve as an FAQ of sorts:

Are there any spots left in the sock club?

  • The sock club is definitely sold out, I wouldn’t be mean enough to hold out on anyone. I set a max number with Yarntini and Misocrafty and we even increased it after it quickly sold out. Unlike other clubs where you’re only receiving yarn on a set schedule, this one focuses on the handmade. The bags need to be sewn and the yarn needs to be dyed, not to mention the extras that will be included. Nothing was finalized until we had a final club count.

When will you reopen the club?

  • No definites yet, but we’re thinking early Fall if we do it again. To meet demand and open up more slots, we may change the shipments from every other month to quarterly. There will be an announcement posted here and mailed to newsletter subscribers.  This will allow more time for creating the club goods and more time for knitting!  I also thought this would be helpful since many of you are members of other clubs.

How do I join the newsletter?

  • You can receive store updates by creating an account and checking off the newsletter box.

I’m already in the club and NEED to know when the first shipment is coming!

  • Barring any unexpected delays, the first shipment should go out the week of the 30th. You will receive an email the day it ships.

I’m an international customer, do I need to pay a shipping supplement?

  • As stated on the club page, “club price includes US PRIORITY SHIPPING for last two shipments. international customers will receive an invoice for your shipping balance.” There’s nothing you need to do until I send you the invoice.

Bainbridge Scarf

Bainbridge Scarf

Angela of Oiyi’s Craft’s sent this picture of her Bainbridge Scarf knit with Louisa Harding Grace, a dk silk/wool blend and writes “This yarn just glides along the needles. I loved using it.”

This scarf is perfect for the cold, rainy weather we’re having in the Northeast. Find the pattern at pepperknit blog.

What are you knitting while winter’s still holding on?

voile de la mer

one of the new tilli tomas yarns is here!  perfect for spring and summer, voile de la mer is a lace weight silk and seacell blend in beautiful tone on tone colors. we have nearly all the colors in stock.  it’s so soft, I can’t wait to try it out for a shawl or cami this spring!

club update

by popular demand, I have opened up a few more slots in the club.

there’s a new link to follow.

thanks!!

mulberry silk

I’ve been patiently waiting for this yarn for, what seems like, forever. the wait is definitely worth it though, laines du nord’s gorgeous mulberry silk is a dk weight 100% silk you’ll want to wrap yourself in. right now some of the solids are in stock, but there are more colors coming as well as mulberry print, the variegated counterpart (seen below).

this yarn is perfect for cardigans, shawls, and scarves. the swatch above was knit on 4mm (US 6) needles and I think it could be knit on smaller needles without loosing any of its fluid drape. or use bigger needles for a quick lace shawl (leaf lace or field of flowers patterns come to mind).

p.s. don’t be confused with this company’s french name, laines du nord is actually an italian manufacturer! all their yarns are manufactured in the best italian mills and feature high quality fibers such as silk, extrafine merino, and cashmere.

a mini call for submissions

there were so many wonderful designs submitted for the Sensual Knits book, I’m really having fun looking through all of them and trying to match up styles for a cohesive look. in trying to round out the patterns I am looking for a few more lace dresses and negligee/lingerie inspired designs as well as some wraps or shawls. if you think you have a great idea for this, submit a sketch to submissionsATpureknitsDOTcom

I’ll be looking at each one as it comes in.

thanks!
